PowerSync® 5.0-RTS
Windows NT/2000 Server Real-Time File Replication
PowerSync® 5.0-RTS provides flexible and intelligent real-time file replication for Windows NT & 2000 servers. It offers cross-platform, one-to-many and many-to-one replication of server directories and files across LANs and WANs, with centralized management. Among its features:
- Real-time and/or scheduled operation
- Automatically replicates directories and files to local and remote locations for data protection or distribution.
- Replicates remote files to a central site for centralized backup.
- Provide immediately accessible data backup for production servers for 24x7 operations. Distribute current data updates to remote servers from a central site.
PowerSync® 5.0-S:
Windows NT/2000 Server File Replication
PowerSync® 5.0-S provides flexible and intelligent file replication for Application servers and NAS file servers on LANs and WANs. PowerSync 5.0-S offers schedule-based, cross-platform, one- to-many and many-to-one data replication of server directories and files across LANs and WANs with centralized management. Among its features:
How PowerSync 5.0-RTS can help you...
Centralized server backup
Real-time file backup from production servers to a backup server or NAS file server provides continued access and a quick restore.
Fault tolerance
Real-time replication to a backup server. If the primary server fails, the backup is immediately available for continued operation.
Disaster Recovery
Replicating critical files in real-time to remote server or NAS file server over a LAN or WAN assures continued access to data if a local disaster occurs.
Faster regional access
Distribute updated files, as changes are made, to remote sites.
Synchronized data distribution
Real-time replication to multiple NT, NetWare, and UNIX servers across your network.

Additional Requirement Notes
PowerSync does not work (execute) on NT 4 Terminal Server Edition.
It can execute on Win2k with Terminal Services installed, however, it cannot be run by a Terminal Services user as a remote application.
Q: Which type of networks and network software products will PowerSync® work with?
A: Any Network that supports a Windows client and displays the remote drive(s) in the Windows Explorer drive list (Left Window).
PowerSync works with Windows NT from Microsoft and Netware form Novell. Third party software is required for a UNIX server. PowerSync must execute on a Windows OS.
Q: Why does my saved Auto-Syncs disappear from the Auto-Sync application window?
A: Auto-Syncs must be saved in the Autosync directory when created. If PowerSync is installed in the default location, the path to this directory is C:\Pwrsync\Autosync. You can NOT save them in some other directory and then use the "Add" command on the Auto-Sync application’s file menu to import them.
Q: How do I know that the synchronization was completed successfully?
A: PowerSync provides two ways to easily check the results of a Sync or Replicate operation. The Log File will optionally contain a list of all operations performed ( file/folder copies, deletes, etc). The Log File options can also be set to Errors or Warnings only.
Additionally the Analyze screen will show the differences between the source and destination selections. This can be used as a "before and after" view and verified using the Windows Explorer.
Q: What are common causes of synchronization errors?
A: All files must be closed prior to performing the sync or replicate. Files that are opened or active will prevent the process from occurring. Also disks that are either not available or out-of-space are a common cause of errors. To check for the out-of-space condition, use the Explorer screen to display space available on each disk.
Q: How are Read Only, System and Hidden files handled during a synchronization?
A: PowerSync can optionally copy system and hidden files during a sync or replicate. Version 5.X will copy but not overwrite Read Only files. This is the policy of the program.
Q: Why are the system clock settings so important?
A: Since PowerSync is a file synchronization program, the accuracy of the system clock is very important. PowerSync will be verifying and comparing the time and date of your files as set by your internal computer system clock. Make sure your system clocks on all of the PCs that you are using are set accurately.
Q: When using Setup Center buttons, what procedure should I follow?
A: When you are clicking on a directory to highlight it, this selects it and all subdirectories and files within it. This tells PowerSync that when you click on its center button you want it to apply to all the subdirectories and files within it. If the item is not highlighted, then any center button changes you make apply only to the files within it. Please note that Setup and the center buttons are used for synchronization only. They are not active during replication.
Q: Why is my system slow when using a Virus Scan?
A: This symptom is most often observed while using Microsoft Word. The constant monitoring of the Auto-Sync executable file by the virus scanning programs. Various versions of McAfee AntiVirus are known to cause this problem to appear.
To prevent this issue, exclude the PwrSync directory from the virus scanning software.
Q: Where is the "Realtime" trigger? It does not appear in the list of triggers when the "Schedule" button is clicked.
A: You must check the "Replicate left to right" check box in the "New Auto-Sync" or "Edit Auto-Sync dialog box for this trigger to be available under "Schedule".
Q: Is this File-Based or Delta-based?
A: File-based. The moment the file changes, it gets copied in its entirety to the desired location.
